EVo task (week 4 - task 5) - Devising a lesson plan

Hello!

I have first checked all the speaking websites that were provided by our moderators.

Here are a few of them I particularly enjoyed & which I could use with my students:

- Audioboo (which will be included in my lesson plan)

http://audioboo.fm/

It is a very easy tool to use with teenagers.

I've already used podbean this year.

- Voxopop:

http://www.voxopop.com/

- show beyong (my FAVOURITE) which I discovered thanks to you & which will be my main tool (for this lesson plan)

http://showbeyond.com/show/home

Here is the asssignment I created for my students (who have recently gone to London with myself & 3 other teachers):

http://showbeyond.com/show/view?sid=6ebd7ed665bf02fcd4b544bb09192260

I will also use this tutorial:

It will be a good listening task for my students & will help them understand how to create a story!:)

My students will definitely LOVE this tool!

Great tool too!

& now for something different.... (sorry... could not restrain myself.. I'm a huge Monty Pyton fan....)

My lesson plan: computer lab lesson plan.

It will take approximately 5 hours.

For teenagers but the plan can be adapted.

1- The students will have to watch my story

http://showbeyond.com/show/view?sid=6ebd7ed665bf02fcd4b544bb09192260

And

2- They will answer the question (describe the slides) on Audioboo.

3- They will have to watch the tutorial.

4- & to create their own story about an English-speaking city.

5- We'll share the stories & each student will choose the story he/she wants to talk about.

6- they will use cinch.me to record themselves.

Looking forward to your comments!

ENHANCING STUDENTS' LISTENING SKILLS LIST

Thanks to all the new tools we can:

- make students explore some of the websites at home & find a video they enjoy, copy the link & paste it on a class list (Google docs or other online sharing device) & then discuss it in class.

- make students enjoy listening to the real voices of actors & develop a taste for listening to the English language

- ask students to research topics using Wordia & then ask them to make a Glog (on Glogster) with their findings to share them with the class

- ask students to choose among 3 videos on

http://www.ted.com/ & give a presentation about one of them.

Any more ideas? Feel free to comment & add to the list!:)

Class digitools - Week 3 tasks - Task n°3

Here is my computer-lab lesson plan :

  Our world – environmental concerns

DIGITAL RESOURCES
http://moviesegmentstoassessgrammargoals.blogspot.com/
http://wordia.com/
Computer lab with Internet connection and headsets.

CLASS LEVEL     Young learners in intermediate level and above

TIME FRAME    Two 55-minute classes (one for studying the video extract & revising grammar and the second one for research on wordia & for the recording part)

LESSON GOAL    By the end of this lesson, students will have
•    practised their listening skills by listening to videos
•    understood a grammar point
•    written their own ideas about environmental issues
•    enhanced their digital literacy by learning how to record themselves
•    recorded themselves & enhanced their speaking skills.

STEPS     The teacher introduces the topic by brainstorming the environment topic.
The students try and find as many words about the topic as possible & will use them to make Wordles.
They study an extract from the film 2012 and study a grammar point.
http://moviesegmentstoassessgrammargoals.blogspot.com/2011/02/2012-future-per... />They also research wordia about the environment and write down notes about what they have learnt.
They prepare a short presentation about what can be done to help save the planet in pairs.
They record themselves & the teacher posts the audio files on podbean.

ISSUES TO CONSIDER     The teacher might check if the headsets at the computer lab are all working.
The teacher must make sure that the students take some notes about the videos they listen to in order to help them write their own presentation.
The teacher must make sure the school's firewall will allow for the use any chosen digital resource to record students' stories.

Feel free to comment & advise some other tools or ideas!:)

Class digitools - Week 3 tasks

This week we are learning about new tools for enhancing our students's listening skills.

Here they are as well along with my comments & ideas about them:

Feel free to comment & ak questions!

1) Movie segments to assess grammar goals:
It is a really fun way to study grammar while improving one’s listening skills.

I'm looking forward to trying this tool with some of my classes.

I will certainly use the following segment when I study environmental issues.

here is the website:

Very nice for young kids.

3) Time 10 questions:
Each week, 10 Questions provides unique access to world and business leaders, major entertainers, and other influential figures from around the world. A selection of reader-submitted questions on TIME.com serves as the basis for a candid interview with each newsmaker.
Interesting, interviews of famous people.

I really like the idea. The interviews are interesting & very easy to use with my advanced classes.

I could use this video for my classes when we study the Civil war:

here is the website:

4) Nik’s daily English activities:
For English language and digital literacy skills.

Great idea! easy to post assignments for our adanced students as homework.
